A must read!
I highly encourage people to read “Diagnosis-Hypertention” in The Times Sunday Magazine.
Last year, while I was still on the floors as a nursing student, almost every patient I saw had a PMH of HTN. We were always taught that HTN is the “silent killer” and should be taken very seriously.
I was floored to read about this patient who had a history of occasional high BP, but was not treated by her previous physician because it wasn’t always a consistent high BP. Insane. Now this patient is on hemodialysis (which is NO picnic) 3 times a week. All for something that could have easily been treated.
Lesson to be learned? Always get a second opinion.
